Diary of an Intern

This past week I've been adjusting to waking up early and working most of the day, then coming home and wanting my bed straight away.  The work experience unit on my university course has started and I am currently working as a social media intern at a dress agency in Cobham, called Phoenix.  As a social media intern I mainly look after the networking sites (Twitter, Facebook etc), but I also blog, write up press releases and take photos of the latest and greatest stock.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the various items I've been photographing.  It's been both heavenly and dangerous being surrounded by so many beautiful clothes.  

DVF, Marc Jacobs, Anya Hindmarch, Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Prada, you name it, they've got it. Everyday there's always something new and exciting added to the stock (and at ridiculously good prices too).  They get some real characters in each day.  This week I've seen girls trying on Jenny Packham dresses for their prom, a lady who 17 years ago bought her wedding outfit from us and one lady who checks tickets to see when things are due to be reduced before she buys.  

I've got three more weeks to go and I've already learnt so much, so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next week.

TOWIE may have won but DVF stole the show!

It was the BAFTA Television Awards last night and the most awaited category was the Youtube Audience.  Of course, The Only Way Is Essex beat the likes of Sherlock and Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.  I was most interested in the Barbie of TOWIE, Sam Faiers' dress, after she tweeted that it was by my favourite designer, Diane Von Furstenburg.  

I speculated whether she'd opt for a classic vintage DVF print or whether the dress would feature the signature Diane wrap that made her so famous in the 70s.  

In true Sam style, the dress featured a revealing V neckline and it was certainly 'vajazzling' (i'm so sorry...)  As suspected, it included in infamous DVF wrap, which Diane promises would look flattering and sexy no matter a womans shape.  The wrap tied off with a black silk ribbon and black heels, giving contrast to the snow white dress.  It certainly brings out her tan!

I think she looked the best out of all the girls, she kept it simple and elegant, where as Amy (as much as I love her) looked like she was off to a Gypsy wedding.  Well done Diane, you've made it in Essex!

March Favourites and a cry for help.

Here we are again, another month gone.  Here are some pictures that sum up my month, what i've been watching, what i've been reading, what i've been wearing etc.

I wish this was my make up collection...

Right, my cry for help is pretty much because I've been on the look out for Urban Decays Naked Palette (above).  I'm going shopping tomorrow and wondered if anyone knew of places that sell Urban Decay, apart from Boots and Debenhams.

DVF popped in today.

I wish.  When I say popped in, I mean through my letterbox and no normal human being can fit through one of those, so it was in actual fact a book.  

I opened my amazing package a bit confused, expecting some massive hardback book but getting this lightweight book instead (she's so good to us fashionee's - lightweight, portable and handbag sized).  I'm already about 50 pages in as I was reading it on the train to London today.  It's really interesting so far, her mother was nearly gassed in the Holocaust and she was extremely scared about re-launching her line - something you would not pick up from interviews with her.  

There are some amazing photos including this one of her standing with a mannequin.

I think I'll treat myself to a bath with this book as I've finished all the work I needed to get done tonight!

A quiet weekend.

Blogging wise, i've been quiet this weekend due to working all day yesterday and being at my sisters today, so I apologise.  I mentioned on Friday I was going shopping as it was pay day and I couldn't have been more disappointed by my lack of purchases.  

It all began well, I went into HMV and picked up these two DVDs which were 2 for £10 or £7 each.  

It then went downhill from there on in.  I saw a million and one things in Topshop I wanted to put in my wardrobe but I can't always justify the prices that just seem to be forever increasing.  

I then went on to MAC and purchased my first Lipglass.

This colour is not dissimilar from the NARS lipgloss I had my eyes on, but at five pounds cheaper, I decided to go with MAC.  I really like the colour against my skin tone and also they smell really lovely, they are just a tad too sticky for my liking.  I will probably end up wearing this shade to death as it is just so lovely.  I'll try and do a face of the day blog post when wearing this.  

I also went to LUSH and purchased the bubblegum lip scrub which everyone has been raving about.

First off, this product smells incredible.  Bearing in mind I have had a cold and I couldn't smell or taste anything, I opened this pot and instantly got a pleasant wiff.  I've used it quite a bit and I really like it.  I'll do a full review on this product in the next week.

I really can't wait for this to arrive in a few days, I absolutely adore this lady and reckon it's going to be an entertaining read!

Ambassador of the phrase 'There's light at the end of the tunnel', Lauren turned her life around from reality TV star to entrepreneur, releasing three novels, a non fiction style book, three fashion lines and god knows what else is left up this girls sleeve.  

Kelly Cutrone:

One of PRs biggest bitches.  She gets what she wants, when she wants and the fashion world flinch when she walks in a room.  I'd still love to work at Peoples Revolutions, regardless.  

Audrey Hepburn:

Need I say more? I believe that Givenchy wouldn't be where they are today, had she not worn that infamous LBD.

Gossip Girl:

Now tell me you wouldn't love to be this woman?  She know's the ins and outs of all the upper east siders as well as knowing secrets before anyone else.  Talk about dramatic irony.  

An amalgamation of all things gorgeous.

What a beautiful day today has been! Today was the first day I wore just a cardigan and didn't feel like I was cold.  Not only has the sun brightened my mood both literally and metaphorically, but the postman, who is soon becoming my new best friend, also brought me the new Vogue.  Flicking through I saw two words that were in my favourites list.  DVF and vintage.  My love for the mighty Furstenburg is true, and when I saw that she is to re-launch the prints used on her first batch of wrap dresses, for a newer capsule collection, I just had to have a look.  The capsule collection is called DIANE, and is on sale now.  

It fits into the 70s trend boom happening this season and for designer pieces, they are certainly more affordable prices too.  Here are a couple of my favourite items from DIANE.  

The Julian Dress - £290

Classic above-the-knee wrap dress, with this gorgeous swirl print.  Very easy to wear on a summers day.

The Celeste Dress - £325

Again, another wrap dress, only this one is slightly shorter and would probably be my go to beach dress for my holiday.

iPhone/BlackBerry Phone Case - £47

I am really tempted to buy this for my Berry, it's DVF, vintage print and will also protect my phone.

Trend forecast: A/W 2011

It's been a whirlwind of a week for London fashionistas.  London Fashion Week is coming to an end.  After watching the catwalks and cooing over beautiful garments I'd never be able to afford, here are my predictions for A/W 2011 trends:

Burberry Prorsum

Colour(s):  

Bright colours will still be with us next season although the standout colour will be red.

Marc Jacobs

Topshop Unique

Print(s):

 Polka Dots.  They've been everywhere, Koma, Jacobs, Unique, DVF, Burberry etc.  Next season will be about finding your inner dalmation, there's plenty of choice, after all there was 101 of them.  

David Koma

Diane Von Furstenburg

Fabric(s): 

Leather, chiffon and fur.  Fur is an obvious choice for winter, whether it's faux or not it will keep you warm.  Leather gives even the girliest of girls that edge, whilst mixing it with chiffon see's that no man forgets your femininity. 

Betty Jackson

Nicole Fahri

Shape(s): 

Oversized garments will make layering up that much easier next season.  Big shoulders have also been seen on the catwalk.  

These are just a few ideas and observation I've made over the last couple of weeks, what do you think will be an A/W 2011 trend?

Kate Bosworth

I adore this outfit, when I saw her step out of the car at Burberry I fell instantly in love.  It's caused some controversy but I like it! I think it's the studded leather skirt that does it for me.
